It’s Sunday, and frankly, I’m feeling a little like hanging out in my sweats, sitting in a sunny corner of the house with the windows open, and reading.  That’s okay, right?  I mean, we need to give ourselves permission to have these days.  Days when we don’t shave, put on make-up, maybe even (the gods forgive us) not even shower!

I believe we spend so much time being “on” that we feel like even on Sundays the world is still expecting so much of us.  It’s not!  We set expectations for ourselves, and yes, maybe there are people who are relying on us and do expect things of us, but we make our own choices.  Ultimately, it’s okay to have days when our energy is lower, our minds are tired of thinking, our bodies hurt, we feel meh or just generally don’t want to interact.  Being aware of this is being mindful.  So good job, you!

My Sunday involved an early morning meditation at Mickler’s Landing, a local beach hang-out south of Jacksonville where surfers frequent the bigger waves and the beaches are less crowded.  My friend, Heather and I sat there and contemplated the different ways people meditate.  There really is no wrong way. No right way either.  It’s not either/ or, it’s both/ and.  So whether you are sitting in your room on a meditation pillow (my spot is the feature photo, laying in bed, in nature on the beach, or in a park, walking, or surfing at Mickler’s, as long as you are being present and mindful you are there.  Easy, right?

Well, first you have to find a way to practice being mindful and present.  Breathing helps!  Some meditation apps help with guided meditations or ambient sounds.  I like Insight Timer personally.  You have to find your own vibe, what works for you if and when you are ready.

In the meantime, you need to be good with where you are.  Guess what?  It’s where you are supposed to be right at this moment.  Where you are is where you are supposed to be (WYAIWYASTB).

So don’t fret it!  We’re doing pretty good for a Sunday, even if we are just hanging out in our ‘jays today.  And if you are out in the world being productive, I have some advice for you.

Pause, will you?  And be gentle to yourself and others today.

The best,

Christina
